National Curriculum

At Abingdon we aim to deliver a curriculum that is enriched and exciting; a curriculum that ‘engages and develops children’s thinking, while encouraging them to be innovative and expressive’. We have also adopted a ‘Learning Without Limits’ approach to learning which allows our children to challenge themselves and develop their own learning opportunities.

At Abingdon Primary School we follow the Cornerstones Curriculum which is in line with the new National Curriculum 2014 as the basis for planning and teaching English and Mathematics across the school as well as other primary curriculum subjects including;

  • Religious Education
  • Computing
  • History
  • Geography
  • PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education)
  • Science
  • PE (Physical Education)
  • Music
  • French
  • Design and Technology
  • Art and Design

Lessons are planned to incorporate the core content and programmes of study from the National Curriculum together with topical themes and ideas to provide context, purpose and relevance to the children’s work. We constantly look for opportunities to link work in the classroom to real life in order to help children to develop an understanding of the world around them.

Should you require any additional information on the curriculum for your child please contact your child’s class teacher or access the link below to the Department for Education.
