Autumn Adventures in Albert Park

Year 2 take their science learning outdoors to discover the wonders of Autumn!

Our Year 2 children have been enjoying a fantastic outdoor learning adventure with a visit to Albert Park, where they became nature detectives, exploring the changes that happen during Autumn.

As part of our bespoke Abingdon Curriculum Progression, this visit brought our Year 2 Science curriculum to life. Rather than simply learning about the seasons in the classroom, the children had the opportunity to see, touch and investigate the changes happening all around them.

Armed with curious minds and keen eyes, the children explored the park, looking carefully at the trees, leaves, plants and natural environment. They spotted the beautiful Autumn colours, noticed leaves falling from the trees and looked for signs that nature is preparing for the colder months ahead.

The visit gave children the chance to develop their scientific observation skills, ask questions and talk about what they could see. They explored how the weather and daylight change throughout the year and began to understand how these changes affect plants, animals and the world around us.

There was plenty of excitement as the children discovered different leaves, compared their colours and shapes and shared their observations with their friends. Learning outdoors made science real, memorable and lots of fun!

Our visit also provided a wonderful opportunity to put our ARCH values into action:

  • Ambition: Being curious, asking questions and developing our scientific knowledge.
  • Respect: Caring for the natural environment and looking after our local community.
  • Collaboration: Working together, sharing discoveries and learning from each other.
  • Honesty: Sharing what we have observed, explaining our ideas and being truthful about what we discover.

At Abingdon, we know that some of the best learning happens when children can experience the world for themselves. Visits like this help bring our curriculum to life, build confidence and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

A huge well done to our Year 2 nature detectives for their brilliant observations and enthusiasm!

Crunching leaves, curious minds and scientific discoveries – Autumn learning at its best!
