Let the Forest School Adventures Begin!

Let the Forest School Adventures Begin!

Year 3 children are stepping into a world of outdoor adventure, discovery and learning!

Today marks the start of something very special at Abingdon Primary School. Thanks to funding from The OWL Collaboration Grant Nest School Offer, we are delighted to continue our collaboration with the North Yorkshire Country Trust and provide Year 3 with a Forest School session every Monday!

This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to get outdoors, explore nature and learn in a hands-on and exciting way. From discovering the natural world and investigating our local environment to developing practical skills, teamwork and confidence, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn, play and grow.

Forest School is about so much more than being outdoors. It gives children the chance to take on challenges, try new things, solve problems and learn from their experiences. Whether they are exploring, creating, building or simply taking time to notice the world around them, every session will bring new discoveries.

It also builds relationships, not just with their class and teachers, but also with the staff from the Country Trust who host our farm visits and the Year 4 residential.

The project also provides wonderful opportunities to bring our bespoke Abingdon Curriculum Progression to life. Children will be able to make meaningful links between their classroom learning and the world around them, developing their knowledge and skills through real-life experiences.

It is also a brilliant way to develop our ARCH values:

  • Ambition: Having a go, embracing challenges and discovering what they can achieve.
  • Respect: Caring for nature, looking after our environment and valuing each other.
  • Collaboration: Working together, sharing ideas and learning as a team.
  • Honesty: Being true to ourselves, learning from mistakes and taking responsibility for our actions.

We know that spending time in nature can have a powerful impact on children’s happiness, health and learning. Research from the Country Trust’s Stepping Stones to Nature programme found that 100% of participating children felt more connected to nature, 73% felt calmer and 90% reported feeling more confident outdoors and in themselves.

We are incredibly excited to see what our Year 3 children discover over the coming weeks and months. There will be opportunities to develop new skills, make memories, build friendships and, most importantly, have lots of fun!

Here’s to muddy boots, curious minds, new adventures and learning without limits!
