As part of the first in our series of Spotlight on Belonging assemblies, one of our Year 4 pupils wanted to share his personal experience of living with diabetes.
Our Year 4 Diabetes Champion spoke confidently to his peers, helping them understand what diabetes is and why he uses the equipment he does as part of managing his condition. He answered questions and helped children understand that while diabetes is an important part of his life, it does not define who he is.
He also wanted to make sure that if another child were ever diagnosed with diabetes, they would know that they are not alone and that there is someone in our school community who understands what they are going through.
His message was simple and powerful: we can be different from one another and still have far more in common than we realise. 💙
We are incredibly proud of the courage, confidence and kindness he showed in speaking up and helping others to understand his experience.
This was a wonderful example of belonging, empathy, inclusion and pupil voice in action. 🌟
