Welcome back Year 3 pupils! We all hope you had a fantastic holiday. We are confident that this term will be full of exciting and memorable learning experiences for our children, with lots of engaging activities and wonderful trips and visits.
This half term our Maths focus will be Money, shape and angles. Money will cover recognising the different coins, adding amounts and finding change. Children will be naming and recognising properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They will be doing some outdoor learning to find shapes in real life. Children will also learn about angles and lines.
Here are some useful links to use at home to support your child’s learning.
Literacy and Topic
Our topic this half term is Tremors. We will be learning all about different volcanoes around the world and learning how and why they erupt. Children will use a range of art and D.T skills to create, draw and paint volcanoes.
Our text for this topic is Escape from Pompeii – this is a story about the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Using the text, the children will learn about the destruction of Pompeii and write a narrative, imagining they are a character during the terrifying eruption.
As usual, your child’s homework grid will be stuck into their homework book. Topic homework is given out on a Friday and your child must complete one piece of work from the homework grid. This is due in on Mondays to allow it to be marked.
Please continue to support your children with the Ocean Math’s games which are given out when each area of Math’s is being taught at school.
Please remember that all children should read for at least 5-10 minutes every evening and this should be recorded in their reading journals.
Times tables and spelling words should be practiced for 5-10 minutes each evening also.
This term, Year 3 are aiming to trial a parent/child homework club on Mondays from 3:00 until 3:30pm. This is so that parents can help support their child with their homework with the teacher available.
